Community Support

Our social care support for children with learning disabilities and autism is designed to help them and their families manage daily life and improve their quality of life.

What is Children's Community Support?

Network Care and Support is a specialist provider to children and young people with range of diagnoses such as Autism, learning disabilities and ADHD, physical disabilities and complex care needs helping them with their day to day needs and to access the community.

What does a typical shift look like?

A typical shift in Community Support for Children is centred around providing person-centred support to a child or young person with learning disabilities. Shifts can vary in length, lasting anywhere from just a few hours to 12 hours. As a Support Worker, your day may begin by assisting individuals with their morning routines, which could include personal care, or helping them get ready for daily activities. You’ll support individuals to learn and develop life skills such as cooking, problem-solving activities and more.

Throughout the shift, you'll focus on promoting each individual's autonomy while ensuring their safety and well-being. You will support them in the community, help them build social and independent skills, join after school clubs or respite for the parent or carer.

Specialist training

In supported living environments, staff play a vital role in helping clients live independently while providing the care they need. This requires a deep understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with learning disabilities, neurodivergence, and autism. Our specialist training covers key areas:

Learning disabilities, neurodivergence, and autism awareness Staff learn to recognize how these conditions affect daily life, gaining practical strategies for communication, sensory awareness, and supporting independence. This training ensures staff can provide tailored, person-centred care. De-escalation, management, and intervention training Accredited by BILD and ICM Standards, this training equips staff to handle challenging behaviours with calm, respectful de-escalation techniques and safe interventions, ensuring the well-being of both residents and staff. Epilepsy and specialist medication training Staff are trained to manage seizures, administer medication, and respond to medical emergencies, ensuring individuals with epilepsy and other medical needs receive top-quality care.

Progression opportunities

In Community support, Support Workers have clear progression opportunities to advance their careers.

Senior Support Worker Pathway:

Staff can move into Senior Support Worker roles, where they take on more responsibility, including supervising staff, conducting spot checks, and contributing to the on-call function.

Specialised Pathways:

With additional training in management techniques from our in-house trainers, those excelling in senior roles can progress further into specialized positions or office-based roles such as Coordinators or Care Quality Assessors, ensuring ongoing development and growth within the company.

Health and Social Care Diploma opportunities

Once staff complete their probationary period, they can enrol in a fully funded Health and Social Care Diploma. Working with our dedicated assessors and training partner, staff gain practical experience and tailored support to develop their skills further. This qualification, alongside hands-on training and guidance from our in-house trainers, opens the door to career progression in specialized roles like live-in care, complex care, and children’s services, or ensuring the highest quality of care is provided to those with learning disabilities.

Your experiences matter to us. Hear directly from our valued clients and carers.

Working with children in supported living has been incredibly rewarding. I support a young girl named Emily, who has Down syndrome. My role involves helping her develop daily living skills and encouraging her to participate in community activities. Seeing Emily gain confidence and independence has been the highlight of my career. The training and support from my organization have been invaluable in equipping me to meet her needs effectively

As a community carer, I work with a boy named Jake, who has autism. My focus is on helping him integrate into community activities and build social connections. One of the most rewarding moments was seeing Jake make his first friend at a local sports club. The progress he has made in social interactions is incredible. The support from my team and the continuous professional development opportunities have been crucial in my role.

Supporting children in the community has been a fulfilling journey. I work with a young girl named Sophie, who has cerebral palsy. My role includes assisting her with daily tasks and encouraging her involvement in community events. Watching Sophie grow more independent and confident each day is truly inspiring. The comprehensive training and resources provided by my organization have been essential in helping me support her effectively.
