Crisis Intervention

Our dedicated team of experienced professionals specializes in working with children and young people. They provide monitoring, supervision, and emotional support during critical moments. We step in to manage risk on behalf of local authorities while a more permanent, long-term solution is identified. Crisis situations don’t adhere to a schedule, so neither do we. Our service is available round the clock, every day of the year.

What is crisis intervention?

At Network Care and Support, we understand the urgency and sensitivity of crisis situations involving children and young people. Our Crisis Intervention Support Service provides immediate, short-term assistance to those experiencing emotional, mental, physical, or behavioral distress. Crisis situations include sexual assault, physical or emotional abuse, medical or mental illness, suicidal thoughts, and significant changes in relationships, such as the death of a loved one or divorce.

What does a typical shift look like?

As a crisis intervention support worker for our clients, you’ll be working with young people who have complex needs and ensuring their safety. Your responsibilities include:

Being involved in the handover from the previous shift, gaining insight into the client’s well-being, incidents, and plans for the day.  Assisting the young person with their morning routines and daily activities.  Encouraging participation in schooling.  Promoting independence with food preparation and other activities. Logging all activities for the next handover and preparing contact notes.

Specialist training

Staff working in crisis intervention are experienced social care workers who have built up a significant level of expertise. Our staff work with young people who have complex needs and must be trained to manage specific behaviours. This training includes:

Prevention management of violence and aggression (PMVA) Teaches de-escalation techniques and safe restraint methods.  Preventing adverse childhood experiences (ACE) Essential for supporting those from traumatic backgrounds.  PRICE or specialist ligature training Includes the use of rescue kits for managing high-risk ligature cases.  Managing challenging behaviour Equips staff to handle difficult behaviours effectively.  Child sexual exploitation (CSE) training Beneficial for supporting young people exposed to sexual abuse.  Gangs and county lines training Important for those at risk of drug trafficking or criminal behaviour.

Progression opportunities

Once staff have gained sufficient experience handling lower risk referrals, they can progress to managing more complex and higher risk cases.

Team Leaders

Additionally, there may be opportunities for them to become team leaders, where they would be responsible for decision-making during shifts, as well as overseeing medication and maintaining contact notes.

Health and Social Care Diploma opportunities

Once staff complete their probationary period, they can enrol in a fully funded Health and Social Care Diploma. Working with our dedicated assessors and training partner, staff gain practical experience and tailored support to develop their skills further. This qualification, alongside hands-on training and guidance from our in-house trainers, opens the door to career progression in specialized roles like live-in care, complex care, and children’s services, or ensuring the highest quality of care is provided to those with learning disabilities.

Your experiences matter to us. Hear directly from our valued clients and carers.

Working with children in crisis is challenging but incredibly rewarding. I recently supported a young boy named Alex during a family emergency. Providing immediate emotional support and ensuring his safety was crucial. Seeing him gradually feel secure and start to open up was deeply fulfilling

Supporting children in crisis requires patience and empathy. I worked with a girl named Mia, who was going through a traumatic event. By being a stable presence and listening to her needs, I helped Mia feel understood and safe. Watching her regain confidence and trust was a highlight of my career.

Helping children in crisis is tough but meaningful work. I assisted a child named Liam during a difficult period. Providing consistent support and connecting him with resources made a significant difference. Seeing Liam start to heal and thrive reminded me why this work is so important.
