Complex Care

Complex care aims to support clients with substantial and ongoing healthcare needs to live as independently as possible through maximising their potential and lead fulfilling lives despite their health challenges.

What is Complex Care?

Complex care, also known as long-term or continuing care, is a specialised form of healthcare designed for individuals with significant, ongoing health issues. These issues can include chronic illnesses, disabilities, or multiple health conditions that require continuous and coordinated care from a nurse led team.

What does a typical shift look like?

As a complex care assistant for our clients, you’ll embrace an exciting and varied role. Your days will be dynamic and rewarding, involving:

Assisting clients with their morning routines and daily activities.  Providing essential care tasks, such as medication management, physiotherapy, and transfers from bed to wheelchair.  Keeping accurate records of the care provided and any changes in the client’s condition.  Working in a coordinated manner with the rest of the care team.  A role where no two days are the same and where your care directly enables someone to live life to the fullest.

Specialist training

In complex care environments, staff play a vital role in supporting individuals with high-level medical needs, helping them live life to the fullest. This requires a deep understanding of complex medical conditions and the ability to facilitate extraordinary experiences for clients.

Advanced medical care and respiratory management Led by clinical specialists, this training equips staff to manage complex respiratory needs, including ventilation, tracheostomy care, and secretion management, ensuring expert care in settings ranging from home to overseas travel. Specialized feeding and elimination care You'll learn to manage various feeding and elimination methods, ensuring client comfort and preventing complications. Neurological care Focused on managing neurological conditions, this training ensures client safety in all situations. Communication and mobility support You'll be trained to support clients during unique activities like mountain expeditions and air travel, managing medical equipment and ensuring safety in diverse environments.

Progression opportunities

In Complex Care, staff have clear progression opportunities to advance their careers.

Senior roles - Staff may progress into Senior Carer positions, taking on greater responsibility through mentoring and supervising colleagues, carrying out spot checks, and supporting the on-call function.

Team Leaders - With additional training and support, Senior Carers can progress into Team Leader roles, taking on greater responsibility for staff supervision, service quality, rota planning, and the smooth running of day-to-day operations.

Those excelling in their Senior roles may have the opportunity to progress into specialised office-based positions, such as Care Coordinators or Care Quality Assessors, supporting continuous development and growth within the company.

Health and Social Care Diploma opportunities

Once staff complete their probationary period, they can enrol in a fully funded Health and Social Care Diploma. Working with our dedicated assessors and training partner, staff gain practical experience and tailored support to develop their skills further. This qualification, alongside hands-on training and guidance from our in-house trainers, opens the door to career progression in specialized roles like live-in care, complex care, and children’s services, or ensuring the highest quality of care is provided to those with learning disabilities.

Testimonials

Your experiences matter to us. Hear directly from our valued clients and carers.

Working in complex care has been a deeply rewarding experience for me. When I first started, I was drawn to the challenge and the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of individuals with complex needs. The training provided by my organization was thorough, covering everything from advanced medical care to effective communication strategies and emotional support. The support from my team and the continuous professional development opportunities have been invaluable. They have equipped me with the skills and confidence to handle the complexities of my role. I am proud to be part of a team that is dedicated to providing high-quality care and making a real difference in the lives of our clients.

One of the most fulfilling aspects of my job is building strong relationships with the residents and their families. Understanding each individual's unique needs and preferences is crucial. For anyone considering a career in complex care, my advice is to be yourself and stay committed. If you genuinely care and want to make a difference, this field can be incredibly rewarding.

Working in complex care has been an eye-opening and fulfilling experience. The clients I care for have a variety of chronic conditions and complex needs, which require a high level of coordination and collaboration. Our team, which includes doctors, nurses, therapists, and social workers, works together seamlessly to ensure that every aspect of our clients' care is addressed.

We have had an amazing experience being supported with our now 4 year old, foster child, with complex medical needs.

From the first meeting with Jana and Mark we were put at ease. They made it clear that with health funding the support package, that we had control over what would happen in our home.

Over the next 3 months a small team of carers looked after G overnight. They were shadowed and trained by Marc. Marc not only trained the carers but ensured we felt they were a really good fit to our family.

We now have a tight, delightful group of carers who adore G, who are highly attuned to her needs and very responsive to subtle changes in her presentation, responding to these diligently. They are delightful and they smile with real joy when they greet G.

We see Marc frequently and know he's always on the end of the phone.

Months down the line, it feels like G has a close circle of lovely Aunties looking after her, they've almost become part of the family and are genuinely an integral part of G's growth and development.

We had no idea at that first meeting that Network Complex Care would become so important and integral to us and G.

Tom, the whole family and I would like to thank you and your amazing team for your incredible support. We had struggled for years trying to ensure that Tom’s needs were met. He has lost so much, not just his independence and it broke all of our hearts that every step felt like an uphill battle. The moment I met you and Cathy, it felt like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. However, we have heard the talk and promises before. You have consistently walked the walk, fulfilling your promises, along with the team of carers you have put around him. This is also true of the other vital staff that it takes to keep everything running smoothly.

The team providing care for Will is excellent. The handover from day shift to night shift is always seamless. Every member of the team provides accurate and relevant information quickly and efficiently. This is really important as a continuous care is essential for Will because he cannot speak for himself and any gaps in relevant information can quickly led to a problems with providing the correct care.

All team members are kind and they treat Will with respect. His environment is consistently clean, his medications and sundries are always ordered correctly and we appear never to have any gaps. This is due to great record keeping, management and, I feel, due to caring nature of the team members. It matters to each member that things are done correctly so as not to cause Will any discomfort.

I am writing to you to say how grateful we are for Rob’s wonderful support team. They have enabled Rob to do so much from the secondment in London, holidays in the Isle of Wight and Dublin, hill walking in Hereford, abseiling and canoeing in the Peak District, evenings out with friends, work travels to Europe, and attending weddings across the country and abroad, they truly go above and beyond. They are so professional and dedicated often putting themselves out to make these things happen. As a team they support each other and cover shifts often at very short notice; they are there for each other and help newer members of the team get up to speed and feel confident.

They cope with multiple changes of location, the technology and various environments from mountains to boardrooms! While they are doing all this, they are fun to be around and make a positive difference to the rest of family’s life as well as Rob’s.
