Shadowing

At Network Care and Support, we know starting a career in care can be both exciting and challenging. That's why we offer a structured shadowing program to help new carers and support workers build confidence and develop skills from day one.

By shadowing an experienced carer, you'll gain hands-on experience in real-life care situations while being guided by a mentor. The duration of your shadowing will depend on your progress, with regular discussions to assess your development.

During shadowing, you will:

Gain practical experience in personal care, medication management, companionship, and household tasks.

Learn effective communication with clients and their families.

Build confidence in handling real-life situations.

Understand the diverse needs of those we support, from elderly care to learning disabilities.

Shadowing is a supportive experience, allowing you to learn at your own pace. Our goal is to ensure you feel confident and ready to join the Network Care and Support team.

The care certificate: your foundation in care

We are committed to ensuring that all our new starters have the knowledge and skills to provide high-quality care. As part of your induction and training, you’ll work towards achieving your Care Certificate, a nationally recognised programme that equips new health and social care staff with the essential skills, knowledge, and behaviours to deliver safe, compassionate, and high-quality support.

Guided learning

You won’t be on your own! You will work through a comprehensive workbook, and our experienced team will be there to support you through every module, offering feedback and assistance when needed.

On the job application

The workbook ties closely to your day-to-day tasks, allowing you to apply what you’ve learned directly to real-world care scenarios.

Flexible progress

You’ll work through the workbook during your shadow sessions. Depending on your development and experience, your manager will help set realistic targets for completion.

Recognition

Completing the Care Certificate workbook is a significant achievement and is often the first step towards gaining further qualifications in health and social care.

Skills

You will understand your role and responsibilities as a care worker, build core skills in communication, safeguarding, infection control, person-centred care, and health and safety, preparing you to deliver safe, compassionate support.

Interesting learning

The completion of the workbook involves a combination of self-assessments, practical observations, and reflections on your experience.
